ZEN Opens!
10am—10pm
The much-awaited re-opening of the stylish department store is upon us! Completely destroyed last year during the final days of the red shirt protest, ZEN is now ready to embrace shoppers looking for a store that’s more! Popular with tourists and locals alike, ZEN is a stockist of some of the coolest fashion labels, including Thai designer brands. The new store promises to be an exciting one-stop shopping destination that perfectly complements the popular CentralWorld mall in which ZEN is the anchor tenant.
Venue: Centralworld, 4/5 Rajadamri Road

2012 Korean Music Wave
7 Apr, 5pm
It seems like there is no stopping the Korean Wave. Not a month passes in Bangkok without some K-pop group coming by, however briefly, to send fans screaming and hyperventilating. This time, this will be big, and, if you're one of those unstoppable devotees, great value for money! On one stage, you will be able to watch the performance of more than 20 acts, with headliners such as 2PM, Shinee, and Beast doing their inimitable acts! Yes, scream!
Venue: Rajamangala National Stadium, 286 Ramkhamhaeng Road • 02-3690999

Pixel Horizon
Now till 8 Apr, 11am to 7pm (Thu to Sun)
Montri Toemsombat is not one of those Thai artists who stay clear of controversy. His work unashamedly embraces his sexuality and his sexual world view, and in doing so, wittily dig at social structures that are prevalent in our midst. The latest exhibition comprises pieces of digital art that result from pixel manipulation, a technique he first explored in his earlier works Nanothailand (also at 100 Tonson). Art aficionados may be enamoured with Chinese artists now, but the Thais are not to be dismissed.
Venue: 100 Tonson, 100 Soi Tonson, Ploenchit Road • 02-684157 •

An Art Book Exhibition
Now till 17 Apr, 10am
You'd never thought that even art books have to be exhibited! Here, more a sales event than a mere display, the show features tomes from the highly-acclaimed German publisher Taschen that has a particular fondness for art, architecture, design, and fashion. Since you're unable, for example, to attend the hit exhibition of Helmut Newton's works in Paris's Grand Palais, it might just do if you get to flip through the pages of the eponymous photographer's Sumo, presently revised by his wife, June Newton.
Venue: Serindia Gallery, Room 3101, 3201, OP Garden, 4-6 Charoen Krung Soi 36 • 02-2386410

The Upside-Down World of Philippe Ramette
Now till 29 Apr, 10am to 9pm (closed on Mon)
Not only does it seem gravity-defying, it is death-defying too! Photographer Philippe Ramette's pictures featuring men in unusual situations are, according to the man himself, never touched-up. Yes, they are Photoshop-free! So when you see a guy leaning over a balcony that seems to emerge from the waters of Hong Kong bay, it's all very real. Whimsical they may be, these photographs are really masterpieces too. This exhibition is part of the annual La Fete, a French-Thai cultural festival.
Venue: BACC, 8/F, Rama 1 Road • 02- 2146630 •

Agnostic Front Live
30 Apr, 8pm
Bangkok does not only attract K-pop artists, it's a magnet for hard rock acts as well. New York-based Agnostic Front heads our way and hardcore rock fans won't be disappointed because the concert is staged in a serious rock venue. This band from the 80s plays their music rough and raw even when their song structures appear simple. There may not be guitar-banging, but it will still be loud enough for some head-banging!
Venue: The Rock Pub, Hollywood Street, 93/26-28 Phaya Thai Road • 02-2519980

Portraits de Mode
Now—30 Jun, 10am to 10pm
Fashion has become spectacle to the masses, thanks in no small part to the Internet. Now in Bangkok, it is for all to see, and it is FREE! Co-hosted by ZEN Department Store and La Fete (an annual French culture festival of sorts), the photography exhibition features the works of Jean-Marie Périer, a French photographer of immense repute. What set Périer's photographs apart are not the picture-perfect shots of the usual fashion communication of major brands, but the portraits of some of the most important couturiers of present times. These are fashion's big-wigs, and a peak into their world is more revealing than any fashion show streamed into you iPad!
Venue: ZEN Department Store outdoor arena
